Registration

  • Entitles members to fly Saturday, Sunday, or both
  • Entitles non-members to fly Saturday, Sunday, or both
  • Allows spectators to reserve camping sites, but offers no flight line access.
  • Teams competing in The American Rocketry Challenge (TARC) may use this registration type to fly their test flights and qualifying flights. NAR members with TARC experience are available for assistance and for witnessing official flights.

Please join us for a full weekend of model rocketry at the TIMPA flying field near Picture Rocks, AZ, March 31 - April 2, 2023!

  • T-shirts were available on a pre-order basis, with pre-orders closing March 15, 2023. The order is placed, and pre-ordered shirts will be available at registration. A limited number of T-shirts will be available at the registration desk.
  • All fliers must volunteer a shift to help make Desert Heat possible. Please sign up here for at least one 2 hour shift.
  • Only registered fliers with a valid wristband are permitted north of the flight line fence; pick up your wrist band and merchandise at the registration desk.
  • Maximum altitude for Class 2 rockets is 5,000 ft.
  • Maximum motor impulse limit is a single M.
  • All flights of K impulse or higher must be approved in advance by emailing rangeops@sararocketry.org prior to Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
  • High power fliers must present a current NAR or Tripoli certification card at registration.
  • High power certifications are possible with advance notification by emailing certification@sararocketry.org prior to Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
  • Tent and RV camping will be available, but NO FIRES will be permitted. Gas grills and stoves are OK over sandy campsite areas.
  • Schedule:
    • Friday 1300 - 1500: Volunteers set up range and fly as time permits
    • Friday 1500 - 1800: Daytime launch for volunteers who helped get SARA flying this year
    • Friday 1800 - 2100: Night launch for volunteers who helped get SARA flying this year
    • Saturday 0800 - 1800 Regular Launch Operations
    • Saturday 0800 - 1700: 2 contests!
    • Saturday: Hourly, 10 am - 4 pm: Birds of a Feather launches, where flyers launch the same rocket in around the same time:
      • Der Red Max
      • Big Daddy
      • Mean Machine/Star Orbiter
      • V2
      • Classic Model (Released prior to 1990)
      • Others...
    • Rent-a-Roc(ket)s are available for $3 per flight. We provide the rocket, motor, and launch expertise!
    • Saturday 1600: Night Rocket Workshop
      Convert your low power models to night rockets $5 for LEDs and Zip Ties
    • Saturday 1200 - 1300: Radio Controlled Flight Demonstration and Buddy Boxing (your chance to fly with a mentor)
    • Saturday 1800 - 2100: Night Launch
    • Sunday 0800 - 1200: Regular Launch Operations
    • Sunday 1200 - 1300: Range Cleanup--Please stay to help!
  • No rocketry vendors will be on site, but pre-orders from Rocketry Works and Animal Motor Works will be available for pickup.
