General Information:
  • FAA waiver is in affect with a clearance up to 4,500 feet.
  • Anyone in attendance may fly Class C Model Rockets (A thru G motors). Only qualified NAR and Tripoli members will be permitted to fly High Power.
  • There is no alcohol allowed on site. You will be asked to leave if you are drinking.
  • No smoking on the flight line.

Note: L & M flights are possible; however due to field limitations, we must consider them on a case by case basis. If you have an L or M powered rocket you would like to fly, please contact vp@mail.sararocketry.org for further information.

Launch Policies

  • Each flight must be accompanied by a flight card. These cards can be picked up at the Range Safety Officer’s table.
  • Do not install igniters in High Power motors (H & up) before proceeding to the pad.
  • Do not arm electronics or pyro-devices until rocket is on the launch pad.
Launch Procedures
  1. Fill out a flight card. If this is a certification flight, make sure the correct box is checked on your launch card, and tell the Launch Control Officer (LCO).
  2. Proceed to the RSO table. The Range Safety Officer will check your rocket and must approve the rocket prior to flight.
  3. Take your place in the launch line.
  4. When the LCO announces that the range is clear, proceed to your assigned pad and prepare your rocket for flight.
  5. As you return from setting up your rocket on the pad, leave your flight card at the LCO table.
  6. SARA will utilize a centralized launch system for this event.  The LCO will fire the rocket.
  7. If your rocket motor fails to ignite, you may be asked to remove the rocket from the pad and install a new igniter. Take your launch card from the LCO table if you remove your rocket from the pads.
Don't be shy!  If you need help, ask a SARA member. We will assist in any way we can.

Directions (MAP)

From I-10 and Speedway, exit 257
  1. West on Speedway past the ARCO AM-PM. Continue on Speedway through Gate's Pass (Speedway turns into Gate's Pass Road). Use caution; the road is narrow, winding, and shared by bicyclists.
  2. Right onto Kinney Road; follow the signs towards the Desert Museum. This intersection is approximately 9.2 miles from the ARCO AM-PM. Follow Kinney Road onto Mile Wide Road (this occurs approximately 1 mile after the Desert Museum). Kinney is the minor spur which heads off to the Saguaro National Park. Stay to the left on the major road (Mile Wide).
  3. Continue on Mile Wide Road to Sandario. This intersection is approximately 6 miles from the Kinney/Gates Pass intersection.
  4. Continue on Mile Wide across Sandario. Mile Wide will turn to dirt after the second bridge (both bridges are single lane, use caution).
  5. Right onto Reservation from Mile Wide (forced turn). This is about 3.5 miles from the Sandario/Mile Wide intersection.
  6. You will see a house and large metal building on the right about 1 mile from the forced right turn. This is the main entrance to TIMPA. The Anniversary Launch will be held here.
From I-10 and Ina Road
  1. West on Ina. After you pass Silverbell Road the road will make a sharp left turn, at this point the road becomes Wade Road. In approximately half a mile the road will turn back to the right and become Picture Rocks.
  2. Continue over the mountain pass until you reach Sandario Road. (just enjoy the view, this is a lengthy, twisty section. Watch for bicycles and tourists)
  3. At the 4 way stop, turn left on Sandario.
  4. Continue south on Sandario until you reach Manville Road.
  5. Right onto Manville
  6. Left on Reservation.
  7. You will see a house and large metal building on the left. This is the main entrance to TIMPA. The Anniversary Launch will be held here.
