Fellow Members,

Hello, my name is Doug Forester and in December I was elected President of SARA along with an entirely new board of directors. It is my task to take SARA into the future and it is my goal, along with the board members, to make SARA into a club that you will be proud to be a part of and enthusiastic to participate in. We will begin 2001 by continuing in the footsteps of the re-organizational meetings of last summer.

To summarize, last August 28 members of SARA met at a Ramada Inn to discuss the re-organization and future of the club. It was largely agreed upon at those meetings that SARA members wanted an organization that offered programs to fulfill a variety of interests. A recent survey among the membership reflects those sentiments. SARA members drafted bylaws and the blueprint for an improved organization. I would like to thank the preceding leadership for their vision and contribution. In December Steve Lubliner, SARA's driving force, stepped down from most of his responsibilities and duties to pursue his interest in the school outreach program and spend more time flying his own models. Steve was one of the original founders of SARA and his contributions to the club over the past five years have been too numerous to describe in this short letter. We owe a great deal to Steve and give him our thanks.

On January 10, SARA's new board held its first meeting in which it began to detail the blueprint for 2001. Among the topics we covered were communications, the website, an email chart room, programs and projects, the launch facilities and dues. Dues were discussed and approved at the August meeting for the purpose of covering the ongoing maintenance and improvement of SARA's operations and functions. You can read more about SARA's dues and membership application in our electronic newsletter posted on our new website at www.sararocketry.org. This communiqué is designed to offer you a brief overview of SARA's new direction and invite you to become an active participant in its future. Current functions are limited by ideas, manpower and capital. As a member you play an important role in the development of what we hope will become Arizona's best rocketry organization and one of the best in the country.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Doug Forester

President
